Subic energy firm adapts DOLE partnership program

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–An energy firm based in Zambales has recently adapted a program of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Luzon (DOLE 3) that seeks to improve workers’ welfare.

The Subic EnerZone (SEZ) Corporation has formally enrolled in the DOLE 3 Kapatiran Wise-TAV (KWT) program.
The KWT program is a flagship program of the labor agency anchored on the International Labor Organization’s Work Improvement in Small Enterprises (Wise) program. The program links productivity and product quality to safer and better working conditions.

The KWT encourages large companies, like SEZ, which serve as the “big brothers,” engaged in third-party contracting or sub-contracting, to coach or mentor their subcontractors/service providers, the “small brothers,” to become fully compliant with general labor standards and occupational safety and health (OSH) standards, as well as with other labor laws.

SEZ is the first locator at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) to enroll under the KWT Program.
DOLE 3 Chief Raymundo Agravante said the KWT Program will cover 37 direct-hired workers of SEZ and more than 90 contractor-workers of its subcontractors/service providers.

Agravante, in his keynote message, lauded the SEZ’s efforts in setting a benchmark for other SBFZ locators to follow its footsteps in encouraging its subcontractors/service providers in fostering a culture of voluntary compliance with existing labor laws.

For SEZ’s part, Engineer Warell Kern Sario expressed full support and cooperation to ensure that the KWT program will benefit all concerned stakeholders.

“We have a big challenge ahead of us, but more than just aiming for a Certificate of Compliance, we truly and genuinely want to instill this culture of voluntary compliance to labor laws in our organization and with our partners. Rest assured that we will extend our assistance on this joint-endeavour,” Sario said.
