Palace: Results of probe into Llamas out next week
Sunday, January 29, 2012
MALACAÑANG remained mum Sunday on the investigation on Presidential Political Adviser Ronald Llamas, who was photographed buying pirated video discs in Quezon City last week, but said results may come out this week.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte assured that once the notice on the investigation comes out, the Palace will immediately release it to the media.
The deputy spokesperson said the investigation on Llamas was ongoing but she refused to give details.
“We were just told that the investigation is ongoing but we don’t know who is conducting the probe,” she said.
A newspaper editor photographed Llamas last week buying alleged pirated DVDs at the Circle C mall in Quezon City. The official’s act drew criticisms from several groups asking for his immediate resignation.
Malacanang earlier said Llamas cannot be held liable for purchasing the DVDs since penalizing such action is not provided under the Optical Media Act of 2003.
Valte said the purpose of the investigation is to determine the possible administrative liability of Llamas, including the possibility of him getting fired.
She said she is aware of calls for Llamas to resign but maintained that the decision will still depend on the President’s shooting buddy.
Asked if the President already met with Llamas, she said she still does not know because she is not asking the President about it due to his hectic schedule.
“What we are awaiting now is the result of the probe since it was already been ordered,” she said.
She added that her coordination with Llamas is only through his staff.
Meanwhile, Valte dismissed the reported call by retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz for Aquino to junk his “tuwid na daan (straight path)” slogan because of his apparent inability to discipline Llamas.
“Assuming that it’s true, we should not have called for an investigation if you will believe on that statement. Let’s us wait for the result of the investigation. We could not afford to go back to business as usual and abandon the straight path,” she said.
