Agriculture agency declares crop damages at P32M

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Agriculture (DA) said Central Luzon (CL) sustained some P32,424,240 in palay damages as inclement weather continues to dump rains in different parts of the region as of Tuesday.
The latest Damage Assessment Report from the DA showed that some 5,138 hectares across the region have been hit by flood waters since late last week.
Close to 4,000 farmers were affected by flooding, the DA said.
Among the affected provinces include Aurora (P3,684,446 worth of damages), Tarlac (P8,258,864), Zambales (P107,019) and Pampanga (P673,946).
Bulacan ranked as the most affected province in terms of farm destruction with P12,244,160 recorded palay damages.
The DA also reported that damages to other crops have reached P614,149 for the provinces of Zambales, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Aurora.
Aurora sustained the most damage in corn crops with P28,904,000 recorded damages for the province alone.
DA said interventions are now being prepared to help affected farmers as soon as weather improves.
