Council declares PR officer persona non-grata

ANGELES CITY — Members of the City Council approved a resolution declaring the public relations officer of giant cigarette company persona non-grata.
In a resolution filed this week, Councilor Edgardo Pamintuan Jr. declared Janice Bautista, Marlboro company’s public relations officer, persona non-grata.
Pamintuan’s resolution was supported by his fellow councilors, including Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting. Pamintuan, son of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, said Bautista allegedly bullied and shooed him away repeatedly during their company’s events in the city.
“It’s not only me that she bullied. She also bullied my wife Nichole and my mother (Herminia Pamintuan),” Pamintuan said.
On May 28, Pamintuan and his wife went to a Marlboro event at the Hacienda Super Club in Barangay Balibago.
When Bautista saw them, she said the Pamintuans were “not supposed to attend their gathering since they were not invited.”
The young Pamintuan introduced himself as a councilor and son of the mayor to Bautista.
The latter, however, allegedly said she did not care.
On October 29, 2010, the young Pamintuan, along with his mother, was also shooed away during the “Tigtigan Terakan keng Dalan” celebration when they tried to enter a Marlboro stall.
“There appears to be a pattern of being boorish by this tobacco company even to their hosts. Angeles City has, in fact, been a gracious host to them, but Marlboro and its people spat at us. We should not let them simply pass. If they can bully the official of the city, the can bully any other Angeleño,” Pamintuan said.
Pamintuan’s resolution was supported by Majority Floor Leader Jericho Aguas by banning Bautista from organizing, participating and sponsoring any event in the city.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Cabigting said the Marlboro company will also be barred from joining city activities.
She said the City Council will ask a public apology from Bautista and her company.
Bautista and other officials of the cigarette company will be invited during the City Council’s regular session next week.
Bautista and her company have remained mum on the issues.
