Man accused of carnapping

A MAN who pretended to be a car buyer is facing carnapping charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for failing to return the vehicle he took.

Charged with violating Republic Act 6539, otherwise known as Anti-Carnapping Law, was alias Wingki Kamama, a resident of Poblacion Paglat in Maguindanao, after prosecutor Victoriano Bello Jr. found probable cause to hold him for court trial based on the affidavit of Jaime Renovilla, owner of a Suzuki jeep with plate number JTJ 116.

Court records showed that Kamama, who asked to test drive the car of Renovilla, drove off and did not return.

In an affidavit, the complainant said that it was on July 28, 2010 that a certain “Max” called him and told him that a certain Wingki Kamama was interested to buy the car.

Renovilla, together with the accused and his two friends, went to a restaurant at Times Beach, Davao City to discuss the sale.

Later that day, Kamama asked the key from Renovilla and said that he will only test drive the vehicle.

On March 24, 2011, Kamama filed a counter-affidavit denying the accusation but remains at large and has not returned the vehicle.
