100 families still living in ‘tent city’

MASANTOL — Pampanga Mayors’ League President and Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo said an estimated 100 families are still staying in tents and other temporary shelters established along a major dike in Barangay Balibago here.
Pelayo said these families have been there since early this month since the southwest monsoon generated a huge amount of rainfall that resulted in massive inundation not only here but also in other towns of the province.

Most of the victims are fishpond and farm workers.
“Karamihan sa kanila ay nagtatrabaho sa fishponds kaya kapag walang trabaho ay wala din silang kita. Problema nila ngayon ang pagkain para sa kanilang mga pamilya,” said Leny Manalo, Pelayo’s chief of staff.
Pelayo recently mobilized resources to further strengthen the post calamity assistance to flood affected residents in this town.
He ordered his team to deliver and provide the immediate needs of the residents in the coastal barangays.
“Nagpadala si Mayor Jerry ng bigas, used clothing and bottled water. Pinadala din ni mayor yung sobrang relief natin dito. Yung mga lugar na may evacuees pa ay pinadadagdagan niya,” Manalo said.
